First Unitarian Church
Oakland, California
|

The First Unitarian Church, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the largest building in the city at the time of its construction in 1891. Carey & Co. Inc. performed technical work on the historic aspects of this building, primarily analyzing the stucco and masonry and character-defining features of the original design to ensure that these areas were not impacted by the new construction. The resulting addition and courtyard modification are a successful example of integrating new construction into historic buildings.
