The Pacific Building, located at the corner of Market and Fourth Streets, was designed by the C.F. Whittlesey Co. and constructed in 1908. It is an early reinforced concrete building, notable for its Sullivanesque terra cotta ornament and jade green color. The building was undergoing a major rehabilitation that converted the building into a hotel, with a major retail client at ground level. Carey & Co. served as preservation architect for the building’s exterior restoration, including terra cotta repair and restoration of the original storefront configuration.
